Argentine Coach Reveals Lionel Messi Is Happy At Barcelona

Argentina head coach, Lionel Scaloni has calmed some of the rumours about Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona.

News outlets were quick to speculate the 6-time Balon d’Or winner’s departure right after he got into war of words with Barca sporting director, Eric Abidal.

“I see him [Messi] fine,” Scaloni told reporters. “The other day, against Real Betis, he was the best player in the field without scoring. He gave the assist and participated of every chance.

“He’s fine, he’s comfortable, he will have to decide on his future but I think he’s comfortable.”

“I’m not worried at all,” Scaloni continued. “He’s comfortable, he’s comfortable at the national team and at Barcelona. Then what will come will come, I stay out of it.”

Argentina will be co-hosting the Copa America this year alongside Colombia, another chance for Messi to clinch his first silverware for his country.

“I think the important thing is to try [to win the Copa America], that he knows we’ll try and be protagonists,” Scaloni added. “He [Messi] is not the only one that wants to win something with the national team, we all want to win, the coach, his teammates, so well, we’ll try and let’s hope we can make it.”

Has Messi ended Abidal’s career?

Has Messi ended Abidal's career?

Lionel Messi is a Barcelona legend.

So naturally when he speaks, the club and the entire world in fact listens.

In a recent interview given by the club icon, he blasted the board for their inefficiency. So what has irritated a calm, quiet player like Messi, who loves the club so much?

Well the Barcelona board has rocked the club quite a few times. It started early last summer when the club failed to land Neymar despite specific instructions from Leo Messi.

It continued to go down for the next part of the season as bad results led to the coach Ernesto Valverde being fired from the club.

Eric Abidal, the club’s new technical director, also proposed that the players need to buckle up. This was the boiling point for Leo who prides himself for being professional.

Abidal, who has made a quite a few fiery comments and has seen all fire back, went on to say that Leo is very important to the club.

However, it might seem all, a little too vague and late for Abidal to save his job. Nobody is more important at the Catalan club than Messi. Masceranho had said that Messi is the club and more.

So is Abidal out of a job?

With Ousmane Dembele out injured, Barcelona is in search of a new striker – and Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez seems to fit the bill.

“What I know is what has been published in the press. There is nothing at the moment. I’m calm and focused on Getafe. I’m leaving everything on the pitch for this club, and as things stand, there is nothing,” Ángel said.

“When the news is about a huge club like Barcelona, the repercussions are bigger, but since they are just rumors, I’m very calm.

“If they contacted me, I would have time to think about things. I have been here after many transfer windows with Getafe, and there is always talk that I will leave. That means I’m doing things well.”

“We are facing one of the greatest teams in the world, and on top of that, on their own pitch. It will be very difficult, but we have to continue at this level to get three points and play a good game.”

The Getafe president cannot also not let him go – thus making his move to Barcelona faster.

“I could not refuse the move,” Getafe president Torres told Catalunya Radio, as cited by Marca.

“I have a good relationship with Barcelona and I have no problem with them. They have had the misfortune of having two strikers injured.

Real Sociedad Demand Full €70m Asking Price From Barcelona For Willian Jose

Real Sociedad is not interested in any offer from Barcelona than Willian Jose’s full €70m release clause.

The Blaugrana are targeting reinforcements after coming to terms with Ousmane Dembele’s latest injury setback.

The Frenchman is set to miss about six months of action with a hamstring tear. This is a huge blow to Quique Setien’s forces with Luis Suarez also ruled out for three months. With the Copa del Rey already out of their hands, winning silverware through the La Liga and the Champions League is still very important for the new coach.

“If they put the €70m on the table then fine, there’s nothing left to say,” Sociedad boss, Imanol told reporters in reference to Jose’s release clause. “The whole thing about Willian José is starting to get a bit much. He’s our player and he wants to continue to be our player. I don’t know how long for but as far as I understand it he’ll be with us until the end of the season.”

Alavés’s Lucas Pérez, Real Betis forward Loren and Luis Suárez of Real Zaragoza are also on Barca’s shortlist for the summer. However, they will the need the permission of the Spanish federation to make a signing right now.

There have been reports of new problems arrising at the Camp Nou.

But it seems they were made up.

Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann has distanced himself from reports that he is having serious issues with captain Lionel Messi. Since the 28-year-old joined Barcelona from rivals Atletico Madrid, the Frenchman has been impressive and has also established himself in the first team. So far this season in the Spanish La Liga, Antoine Griezmann has played 22 games and has netted seven goals for the reigning champions.

But there have been reports that Antoine Griezmann is not happy at Barcelona with France Football claiming that the Frenchman stated that his teammates at Barcelona are jealous of him winning the 2018 World Cup with France. Erika who is Antoine Griezmann’s wife was also said to have claimed that she prefers life in Madrid than living in Catalonia

According to Daily Star, Antoine Griezmann’s media team rubbished the reports claiming the striker has never spoken with France Football. “The statements that appear do not exist,” Griezmann’s media crew are said to have issued.

Meanwhile a lot of responsibility would now be put on the french since Barcelona recently announced that fellow teammate Ousmane Dembele would be out from the squad till the end of the season after a successful surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his proximal hamstring in his right thigh.

La Liga could stop Barcelona from signing much-needed Dembele replacement

Dembele is set to miss the remainder of the season.

And Barca may face troubles in bringing a replacement.

The medical commission of La Liga may yet refuse Barcelona the option of signing a forward replacement for Ousmane Dembele. The Catalan club have confirmed has been ruled out of action for six months with a thigh injury and they will now make a request to La Liga to sign a replacement, despite the transfer window being closed.

The rules in Spanish football allow a club to replace a long-term injured player with another from a Spanish club, should they be able to agree terms.

“There are certain type of injuries that are on the edge of being five months, which is the bracket for Dembele,” said Jordi Ardevol, member of La Liga’s medical commission to Cadena Cope. “There must be a fully reasoned argument that this will be more than five months. The commission is not ornamental, on more than one occasion we have said no (and refused a club’s request).”

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca have already reached an agreement in principle with Real Sociedad for Willian Jose. The reports goes on to say that his relationsip with Quique Setien is decisive. Marca, though, claim that la Real stand by the forward’s release clause, so the Blaugrana would have to pay €35m if they want to fill Dembele’s position.

Barcelona: A club in shambles

Barcelona: A club in shambles

It has been a turbulent season for Barcelona.

Ever since the 4-0 comeback defeat against Liverpool at Anfield, Barcelona seemed like a shadow team. The situation worsened for the club in the summer when they spent a fortune on Antoine Griezmann but failed to re-sign Neymar despite specific instructions from club captain and football legend Lionel Messi to do so.

As the season progressed, Valverde’s outdated tactics made it worse for the club to yield results and barring moments of magic from Messi, Barcelona looked like a struggling outfit.

There crisis up front continued as the new trio of Suarez, Griezmann and Messi failed to gel and it all came to a crashing halt when Suarez was injured in January and was sidelined for 4 months, adding to their crisis with another 150 million rated star in Dembele already out for 6 months.

The club sacked Valverde and signed Quique Setien, a man with no experience of coaching even one international top quality player. It was madness.

They hit the final nail on the coffin when their technical director Eric Abidal, who has made a reputation for himself for making ill-fated comments, targeted the players – and hence naturally targeted Lionel Messi.

For the first time in his Barcelona career, Messi openly spoke out against the club’s board and it has now left the club in shambles.

Stringing out matches, playing new signings out of positions, Barcelona’s fall from grace does not look pretty.

With the league and the Champions League both slipping out of hand, can we expect Lionel Messi to turn things around alone?

Emery credits himself – and blames everyone else

Unai Emery has lamented the lack of VAR which according to him would have stopped Barcelona’s Ramontada against PSG.

“I won Ligue 1, and four domestic cups, as well as two Trophee des Champions titles,” Emery said. “Our ultimate objective was the Champions League, and in the first year (2016-17), against Barcelona in the round of 16, we produced a very impressive first leg performance.

“In the second leg, we were eliminated because VAR did not yet exist. We were clearly eliminated by refereeing decisions.”

“In my second year, against Real, we lost to a team that won three titles in a row,” he added. “However, again, in the first leg, we can also point to the refereeing.

“Overall, we lost for the first time because of refereeing decisions, and then to the eventual winners.”

“Arsenal was a club on a downward spiral for two years before I arrived,” he added. “We stopped this descent and even started to recover with the Europa League final and fifth place in the league, just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur, despite the fact that we took just one point in our final five matches.

“We had Champions League qualification within reach, and it went wrong at the end. However, it was a good season and the idea was to continue and to build on that.

Emery also talked about how it was his credit that Neymar signed for PSG.

“I always felt supported by President Nasser [Al-Khelaifi],” he added. “For example, when we were on the verge of signing Neymar, it was up to me to personally explain to him that we were going to build the team around him.

“With such a phenomenal player, you cannot say that you already have a team in place and that he must adapt — you have to make the team for him. If you do not, then he will not come — that is certain.

“The president and the board spoke about the contract. However, it is up to the coach to convince about the on-pitch project.”

Why Liverpool should re-sign Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho

Why Liverpool should re-sign Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho
Bildbyran

There have been talks of Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho getting re-signed by Liverpool – and former Liverpool player Steve Nicol tells us why this should happen soon.

Philippe Coutinho is an attacking midfielder or winger for Spanish giants Barcelona. However, currently, he is loaned to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

“I’d take him – for the right price,” Nicol told ESPN FC.

“When he last was at Liverpool, he didn’t only play wide in a front three, he played wide as one of three in the middle of the park.

“Do I think he could do that today? No.

“He just seems to have completely lost his way.

“I didn’t expect him to be able to do it at Liverpool, and he did, which was fantastic.

“But he seems to have lost his way.

Nicol agrees that Coutinho’s performance has dropped, but he believes that with some time, effort and extra training, he could be a good bet for Liverpool or even Manchester United.

“If he was to come back to Liverpool or Manchester United, it would take some time to get back in the swing of the Premier League.

“Manchester United haven’t got time to let him settle in.”

How Neymar can seal Barcelona transfer

How Neymar can seal Barcelona transfer

Are Barcelona interested in Neymar?

Is Neymar desperate to join them? The saga has rolled on and on since last summer. However, in the interim both parties have gone downhill. While Neymar has not stopped his party life and theatrics off the football pitch, Barcelona look like a club in crisis.

Neymar has yet again shown that he will turn up and dazzle but only when he wants to. Barcelona on the other hand are in a civil war. So how can this move finally go through and will it bring an end to the problems of both sides?

According to former Barcelona president Jordi Mestre, it has to start with Neymar apologising and changing his life.

“The players asked for him but didn’t pressure the club. I came off badly in that. If he had come back and the club had benefitted because of it, I wouldn’t have a problem with that. I’m not that proud.

“On sporting terms he could come back but on a series of conditions. Firstly, PSG have to agree, then he would have to withdraw his lawsuit and acknowledge that he was in the wrong and after that, all the birthday parties in Brazil would have to stop.

“There were players from the first-team squad who were at a wedding with him but had no idea that he wanted to leave.”
