Barcelona have delayed the return to action of the defender Ronald Araujo
Ronald Araujo, a defensive heavyweight for FC Barcelona, returned to training with the team this past Monday after missing a month due to the midseason break. Due to mental health concerns following the UCL loss to Chelsea, where he was sent off in the first half, the Uruguayan international has been out since late November.
There was no timeline for Araujo’s return, but in the week before the Catalan derby against RCD Espanyol, he returned to his regular work with the team after taking a few weeks off. According to Mundo Deportivo, Araujo has told Hansi Flick that he is still not ready to play for Barcelona despite his return to training.
Up to five training sessions have been completed by the second captain this week, and opinions about his circumstances have generally been favorable. But according to the report, the Uruguayan international is still working on his mental health and does not feel ready to return to the Blaugrana’s pitch.
Araujo tells Flick he is still not ready to play
Ronald Araujo has reportedly told coach Hansi Flick that he is not yet ready to play due to the mental stress he went through, according to Mundo Deportivo. The team is prepared to give the Uruguayan as much time as necessary to recuperate, emphasizing that player mental health continues to be a primary concern.
It is important to remember that defender Ronald Araujo received unfair criticism from supporters and the media during the Champions League fifth-round encounter against Chelsea. He did commit a mistake, but the strain was too much and affected his mental health.
Araujo went to Israel in an attempt to heal and restore his composure. He is still not prepared to resume action, though, even after this trip. It’s crucial to remember that Araujo had played fifteen games for the Catalans in all competitions before that encounter with Chelsea, scoring two goals.
