Next year, La Liga powerhouse Barcelona will have a new chance to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan. This coincides with assurance that the Dutchman’s much-discussed cut-price release clause will resume.
Naturally, Dumfries, a right-back, was widely predicted to join Barcelona this past summer. Deco and company are rumoured to have seriously considered making a move for the 29-year-old as they look for full-back reinforcements for the current campaign.
The €25 million release clause in his Inter contract was largely responsible for this. The Dumfries train is alleged to have arrived and gone after the aforementioned clause expired since the Blaugrana ultimately decided against the relocation. However, this is not at all the case, according to the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport (quoted by Mundo Deportivo).
Barcelona still monitoring Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries
The €25 million payment from Dumfries’ San Siro contract, known as “cyclical” in Italy, will be relevant again next summer and beyond. As a consequence, Barcelona will have another opportunity to sign the dynamic wing-back at a low cost in 2026.
According to the most recent rumours, the identical release provision will take effect the following summer. After splitting from Jorge Mendes, Dumfries is also scheduled to choose a new agent. Due to Jules Kounde’s patchy performance this season, Barcelona may consider looking into the market for a new right-back.
Dumfries has been outstanding for Inter, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists last season, including two goals and three assists against Barcelona over the course of the two-leg Champions League semi-final. However, he is presently out due to an ankle injury. He has scored three goals this season.
