According to reports, manager Hansi Flick is “delighted” with Marcus Rashford and Joao Cancelo, and Barcelona will “do everything possible” to retain both players this summer. Although they are only on loan at Barcelona, the two players want to stay once the season is over. The sentiment is reciprocated, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The club’s financial predicament makes Rashford’s future difficult. The Englishman has two options for continuing, but he will have to accept a wage reduction and an MD report.

The first is for Barca to give him a five-year contract to spread out the amortisation and pay his purchase option in €10 million instalments over three years. Although Manchester United isn’t interested and would prefer a sale, the second possibility is another loan.

For Joao Cancelo, Barca will also need to reach a deal with Al-Hilal. The defender has a year remaining on his contract with the Saudi Pro League team, but he has been open about his love for Barcelona and has been critical of his parent club.

Barcelona and Rashford had already reached a personal agreement months prior. He took a considerable pay reduction to stay at that time. According to reports, he really forfeited almost forty per cent of his prior income. Barcelona continues to feel the weight. Based on a three-year contract, the club determines that the entire cost, which includes salary and the 30 million euro transfer fee, is too high.

In the end, Rashford made a clear proposal for a fresh strategy. He proposed to extend his contract from the initial three years to five years in exchange for Barcelona paying the entire transfer cost. By extending the contract duration, the calculation aims to lessen the cost of paying salaries and amortising the transfer fee. According to reports, Rashford said he could extend the deal until the 2031–2032 season at no extra cost.

Rashford prioritises remaining at Barcelona and feels he is providing enough value, according to the newspaper. With 14 goals and 12 assists this season, he has truly established himself as a vital attacking asset. But Rashford has not yet received a final verdict from Barcelona.
