The talks between Barcelona and Nike are reportedly at an advanced level, according to a recent Mundo Deportivo story. Barcelona will receive €90 million annually from the deal, plus a €150 million signing bonus, which the parties are currently negotiating.
The conclusion of this deal has, however, been delayed for a few days despite the advanced negotiations. Undoubtedly, Barcelona is facing pressure to sign Dani Olmo, and sealing this agreement with Nike as quickly as possible may aid them in that endeavor. Obtaining this deal would give the team much-needed financial support in addition to facilitating player departures.
Remarkably, Olmo’s registration process was expedited by the team using two primary methods. Providing La Liga with the required documentation demonstrating that the club would be able to achieve the 1:1 financial guideline thanks to the agreement with Nike was one strategy.
Barcelona facing ‘much worse’ financial problems if Nike deal does not go through
The new Nike sponsorship agreement that Barcelona has been negotiating for months is the primary cause. The American brand has a contract with the Blaugrana that expires in 2028, but negotiations have been held for a new 10-year agreement that would include an improved contract and a €100 million signing bonus. Their prior confidence stemmed in part from their belief that they would soon reach the 1:1 spending ratio, which would take care of the most of their problems. The public assurance came from the appearance that the agreement was almost finalized in mid-July.
Relevo claims that since then, neither progress nor an explanation for the hold-up have been made. Despite being described as “imminent” at one time, the talks have not progressed. The same source claims that without the agreement, Barcelona’s financial problems would be “much worse” than they were previously, and while there are always short-term solutions to problems, they will be difficult.
