Barcelona Youngster Would Be Worth €50m Is His Name Was 'Pedrinho'

Pedri received high praise for his performances recently.

Barcelona purchased the midfielder’s services for €5m from Las Palmas.

At just 18 years old, he is starting to become a first-team regular under Ronald Koeman. Former Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta believes Pedri would be worth more if he was Brazilian.

“If he was [called] Pedrinho, he would have cost 50 million [euros],” the 59-year-old joked on Cadena SER’s ‘Què t’hi jugues’ programme. “You have to look at what you have inside the club first, but he is a great player.”

Pedri has been the bright spark amidst the gloom of a season Barca are currently experiencing. They travel to Sevilla next for the Copa del Rey semi-final tie and Koeman is optimistic about the club’s silverware chances.

What is a good year for Barca?” said Koeman. “We always aspire to win everything. We know the problems we have. It seems that we are striving a lot of things. I want to highlight the mentality and character of the team.

“We have a quality side, although we lack competition in certain positions. But with the absences and the travel all through January, at the moment I’ll give the team a 10.”

The coach continued. “You can learn a lot from this season as a coach, even though I’m older. This year we’ve changed things at the club and I think we are on a good path. We gave opportunities to the kids, we have made a team for the future, but without forgetting that we have to win games. What we are doing is important.

“After the game against Granada, many Barca fans told me that it had been some time since they celebrated goals like that night. As coach it’s something to be proud of when the fans are back with the team.”
