Lionel Messi reportedly will sign a fresh contract with Barcelona.

The Argentine superstar who is currently participating in Copa America has become a free agent for the first time in his professional career on July 1.

His contract with Barcelona has expired and will eventually sign a fresh new contract with the Catalan giants after his failed attempt to leave Camp Nou last summer.

The 34-year old forward has been linked with a host of clubs, namely Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are the frontrunners for his signature.

“We want him to stay, Leo wants to stay and we are looking for the best formula,” said Laporta.

“We would like it to be concluded as quickly as possible but we know it will take time.

“It’s about ‘fair play’ now.

“I’d love to say he is staying but I can’t say that yet because we’re still working through things.”
