Barcelona midfielder Pablo Torre has openly criticised head coach Hansi Flick, expressing frustration over limited playing time during the 2024–25 season.
“I Earned More Minutes”: Torre Voices Discontent with Flick’s Management
In an interview with Diario Sport, Torre stated, “I respect Flick’s decisions, but I think he hasn’t been fair to me. I think I could have played many more minutes; I think I earned them.”
After returning from a loan spell at Girona, the 22-year-old found opportunities scarce amid stiff competition in Barcelona’s midfield.
Despite making only 14 appearances across all competitions, Torre managed to contribute seven direct goal involvements—more than his five starts.
Torre’s limited minutes have been a point of contention, especially considering his impactful performances when given the chance.
Notably, during a 7-1 victory over Valencia in January, teammate Gavi reportedly requested Flick to substitute Torre instead of himself, highlighting the camaraderie and recognition Torre has among his peers.
Despite his grievances, Torre remains focused on his development and is currently preparing for the U21 European Championship with Spain.
His future at Barcelona remains uncertain, with potential reassessment expected in the upcoming transfer window.
Torre’s situation underscores the challenges young talents face in breaking into elite squads, even when performances suggest they merit more significant roles.
As the new season approaches, it remains to be seen whether Torre will secure the opportunities he seeks at Barcelona or explore options elsewhere to further his career.
