Barcelona agree €25M deal with Palmeiras for Vitor Roque – Here’s What’s Next

This transfer, pending official confirmation, is poised to become the most expensive in South American football history.

Roque, who celebrated his 20th birthday today, initially signed with Barcelona in January of last year. Despite high expectations, he found it challenging to secure a regular spot in the first team, leading to a loan spell at Real Betis last summer.

During his time with the Andalusian side, Roque made 33 appearances and netted seven goals.

The transfer process involved intricate negotiations among Barcelona, Real Betis, and Palmeiras. A crucial aspect was the termination of Roque’s loan agreement with Betis, which required their consent.

As part of the arrangement, Betis will receive an increased share of the economic rights to winger Ez Abde, raising their stake from 50% to 70%.

This move not only facilitates Roque’s return to Brazil but also provides Barcelona with financial flexibility.

The funds from the transfer are expected to aid in contract renewals for key players such as Inigo Martinez and Robert Lewandowski, as well as support the extension of promising talent Lamine Yamal.

The Brazilian transfer window is set to close later tonight, and all parties are working diligently to finalize the deal promptly.

Roque is anticipated to sign a five-year contract with Palmeiras, marking a new chapter in his burgeoning career.
