Bayer Leverkusen midfielder responds to Barcelona rumours

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz is on Barcelona’s wishlist.

The young midfielder has been heavily linked with the Catalan giants who is currently plying his trade at Bayer Leverkusen.

The 19-year-old missed much of the season while recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

He had a superb 2021/22 campaign with the Bundesliga setting up 10 goals in just 24 appearances.

His impressive performances has garnered attention from all around Europe.

There have been recent reports that Barcelona are in contact with Florian’s father for a potential transfer to Camp Nou.

Wirtz could be one of the most talented players of his generation and is currently tied down to Xabi Alonso’s side until the summer of 2027.

It has been reported that the young midfielder won’t be allowed to depart before the summer of 2024.

Wirtz is playing a leading role in the Bayer Leverkusen first team and the player wants to stay in Germany.

He was asked about the recent speculations while on international duty with the Germany squad.

“I haven’t heard anything from my father about Barcelona,” he said.

“I just read that and was amazed. I want to end the season well and achieve something with Leverkusen. I don’t look into the future.”
