Bayern Munich will try to sign Dani Olmo from Barcelona in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Bayern Munich Set Sights on January Swoop for Barcelona’s Dani Olmo
The German giants have tracked the Spain midfielder since his RB Leipzig days and now see a chance to bring him to the Allianz Arena.
Barcelona need to strengthen their defence in January, but the club may have to sell first. That need has put several squad players under review.
Olmo’s situation has attracted particular attention. He has struggled to nail down a regular starting role under Hansi Flick.
Fermin Lopez has become Flick’s preferred attacking midfielder, and 16-year-old Ebrima Tunkara is pushing for senior promotion. Those developments could push Olmo down the pecking order.
Sky Sports reports that Bayern are preparing a January move. Barcelona values Olmo at €70m. From a sporting and financial view, a sale could tempt the Catalan club.
Olmo has performed well when fit, but inconsistency and competition have limited his impact since he returned to Barcelona in 2024.
If Bayern pays the asking price, Barcelona could use the funds to pursue a defender.
Yet a deal will not be simple. Olmo still considers Barcelona the club closest to his heart, and he will need convincing to leave.
His contract runs until 2030, giving Barcelona no pressure to sell cheaply. Bayern therefore face a difficult negotiation. They must persuade both club and player that a January switch makes sense.
For now, Bayern are preparing to test Barcelona’s resolve. If they formalise their interest, Olmo’s future will become one of the biggest stories of the winter window.
Barcelona, meanwhile, must decide whether cashing in on a talented but inconsistent attacker is worth the risk.
