Neymar wanted to make a shock return to Barcelona.

The Blaugrana president Joan Laporta has admitted that the club wanted to re-sign Neymar since he got elected in March.

Barcelona saw their biggest star Lionel Messi join PSG on a free transfer as he couldn’t sign a new deal with Barca due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Laporta said that Neymar was keen to reunite with Messi at Camp Nou which later happened in the French capital.

Neymar left Camp Nou in 2017 in a deal worth around £195m and has recently signed a new long-term deal with PSG till the summer of 2025.

‘We tried to sign Neymar,’ Laporta told TV3.

‘At that moment [after being elected in March], it seemed like an interesting signing. He got in contact. He was crazy about coming.

‘We interpreted fair play in another way at the time. If we had known all the rules [in LaLiga], we would not have made that offer.’
