FC Barcelona is managing several activities with their reserve team, despite the first-team squad’s lack of action in January. The upcoming departure of teenage defender Andres Cuenca is one such operation.
The 18-year-old youngster, a gifted La Masia prospect, played frequently for Barça Atletic under Juliano Belletti and earned his first-team debut for Barcelona last season. Cuenca is prepared to leave his childhood club in the near future, though, since his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
The contract between Barcelona and Como 1907 for Cuenca’s move is really regarded as finalised, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalans will keep a 20% potential sell-on clause but will not be paid a transfer fee for the adolescent defender, as has been previously reported. The two teams’ agreement is now taken for granted. Cuenca will not, however, represent Como for the second part of the current campaign.
Como signed Barcelona defender on loan
It’s interesting to note that Cuenca won’t play for Como right away during the second half of the season. Rather, in order to guarantee regular first-team time, he will be loaned to a third team. One of the top contenders to host the young Spanish defender on loan is Sporting Gijon.
In order to support his growth in a competitive setting, the transaction is structured in two ways: first, he will permanently go to Como, and then he will be immediately loaned to another team. The destination is anticipated to be determined soon, but final arrangements are still being worked out by all parties.
Cuenca’s action is in line with Barcelona’s continuous goal of strategically handling talent departures to maintain both financial stability and player development. As a result, the process would be divided into two phases: a permanent move from Barcelona to Como and an instant loan to another team, Sporting being one of the most suitable choices. After the remaining issues between the three parties are settled, the ultimate destination should be verified.
