As of right now, it is certain that FC Barcelona will look for a new center striker during the summer transfer window. Robert Lewandowski’s contract with the Catalan heavyweights is nearing the end of its term, and it doesn’t seem probable that it will be renewed.
In order to replace the seasoned Poland captain, Barcelona has identified a number of possible candidates. The top player on the want list is Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, while Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic is also included. Tuttosport (via SPORT) reports that Vlahovic is now prioritising a free agency move to Barcelona when his Juventus contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
The Serbian international has, in fact, told his emissaries to maintain Barça as the primary target. He is awaiting a move from the Catalan team with the hopes of succeeding Lewandowski in the long run.
Vlahovic prioritising Barcelona move
According to the most recent information from Italy, Vlahovic will put a move to Barcelona first. According to Sport, Tuttosport says that while his future will start to take shape in March, he is clear about what he wants and has told his representatives to prioritise negotiations with Barcelona. He is willing to speak with Juventus or Premier League teams if Barcelona does not pursue him.
Deco, the director of football for Barcelona, has reportedly communicated with Vlahovic’s representatives on several occasions over a possible transfer. However, the Catalan daily points out that Vlahovic is now not at the top of Barcelona’s wishlist and that it “will be difficult” for him to move to the Catalan city.
Dusan Ilic, a Serbian fitness guru, predicted earlier this month that Vlahovic will end up at Barcelona this summer. It’s likely that Barcelona will wait until the summer to decide whom to pursue, either voluntarily or inexorably, and by then, Vlahovic may have already done so.
