Barcelona defender Eric Garcia has emphasized the psychological importance of Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final, stating that victory would provide the squad with a crucial “extra confidence” boost for the demanding months ahead.

For Barcelona, Super Cup Defense About More Than Silverware, Insists Garcia

Speaking ahead of the clash in Saudi Arabia, Garcia drew a direct parallel to last season’s triumph under Hansi Flick, which sparked a historic treble-winning campaign.

The center-back believes securing the season’s first trophy can act as a similar catalyst.

“We’re going for the Super Cup now, for the title. For us, winning it would mean what it meant last year,” Garcia told reporters.

“It’s January, and that would give us extra confidence. Coming back with the title gives you a real boost of motivation for the tight schedule we have.”

Garcia also reflected on his own adaptable role within Flick’s system this season, having featured in multiple defensive positions.

“I’m playing in many different positions and they all have their challenges. But I like them all and I feel comfortable in all of them,” he stated, showcasing his value to the squad’s tactical flexibility.

The Spaniard reserved special praise for goalkeeper Joan Garcia, highlighting their strong partnership both on and off the pitch.

“Having him as my goalkeeper, and him being my friend, is really great. The saves he makes even surprise us,” Garcia remarked.

With the opportunity to defend their Super Cup title, Barcelona now focuses on translating this confident mindset into a winning performance on Sunday.

Success in Saudi Arabia would send the team back to Catalonia with silverware in hand and momentum building, just before they turn their attention to a Copa del Rey fixture against Racing.

For Garcia and his teammates, this final represents the first critical step in chasing another season of glittering success.
