According to reports, Barcelona has identified two top transfer targets to bolster Hansi Flick’s team this summer. With their finances improving, the Catalan giants have no intention of dismantling their treble-winning squad, and Flick is not under any pressure to offload important players.
In addition to their long-standing ambition of adding a forward, Barcelona is also pursuing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia as a potential top choice. The team may have rekindled interest in Athletic Club star Nico Williams as a result of the attack’s freshness, but that is no longer the case.
Williams is apparently still on the radar of Premier League teams Arsenal and Chelsea, and Barcelona is expected to rekindle their chase of the highly regarded 22-year-old, who is still available for the same fee. Laporta, though, has already officially disassociated the La Liga winners from a Williams move.
Last summer, Barcelona publicly courted Williams after the Basque forward was instrumental in Spain’s victory at UEFA Euro 2024. Barcelona was disappointed when the 22-year-old chose to stay in Bilbao despite a strong effort to entice him to go.
Barcelona end Nico Williams transfer link
Nico Williams was a top target for Barça only a year ago, but it appears that he has already slipped from their radar. The athlete chose to remain at Athletic Club for another season despite their previous attempt to sign him last year.
Nico is currently in the background because of the impact that that refusal had on the sporting planning. Since Barça feels that his chance has already been lost, they would rather concentrate their efforts on players who genuinely enjoy donning the blaugrana uniform. The Spanish international’s name has become less popular in the offices in this regard.
“El Nacional,” however, claims that Nico Williams would regret not accepting Barça’s offer the previous season. The Athletic winger is thrilled about the prospect of sharing a locker room with Lamine Yamal and doesn’t want to pass up another opportunity to play for a major team.
Before thinking about other options, the player’s entourage would be willing to wait until this summer for Barça to make a move. Nico still thinks he could fit into Flick’s new endeavor and dreams of donning the blaugrana.
