Gerard Pique revealed that the entire Barcelona dressing room is united despite their recent struggles.
The Blaugrana bowed out of the Copa del Rey after suffering a 1-0 shock defeat to Atletico Bilbao.
Tensions were already high in the Camp Nou ranks after Eric Abidal’s criticism of the players was met by a vexed Lionel Messi. Another loss on the books will not help ease the energy around the dressing room. But Pique confirmed the players are still focused on winning the La Liga and the Champions League this season.
“It’s not time to air the dirty washing. The dressing room is fully united,” Barca defender Pique told reporters. “Elimination is a big blow but we said in the dressing room that we’ve taken a step forward and played well, despite all the noise that’s been generated.”
He added, “We have to focus on playing and winning. We have to return to winning ways. The players have the ability to keep winning and we are working on that every day, finding a better feel for the game.”
Barca are three points behind Real Madrid in the league. When asked about the possibility of clinching both La Liga and Champions League, Pique replied, “There is enough confidence and talent to be able to win the two remaining titles.”
Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann were guilty of missing clear scoring opportunities. Inaki Williams made them pay by heading home the winner on Thursday night.
