Girona director Quique Cárcel was drawn on the club’s alleged efforts to bring the young gun back.

Barcelona and Girona will be in action against each other in the Catalan derby on the weekend. Ahead of the clash, Girona sporting director Quique Cárcel confirmed on Monday that the club made a conscious effort to bring one of the Barcelona players over the summer.

Girona chief was talking about Erik Garcia who is a crucial member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona. The Spanish international was linked with Girona for a potential summer move but it didn’t happen.

The Catalan club were keen to sign the 23-year-old. Eric Garci spent the 2023/24 season on loan with Míchel’s side and was a key performer in pursuit of Champions League qualification.

While talking in a press conference on Monday, Girona director Quique Cárcel was drawn on the club’s alleged efforts to bring the young gun back.

Girona chief said, “We wanted Eric to come back because he is a player who would have helped us to be more competitive and to define the coach’s game. It would have been an excellent signing for us and that is why we asked Barça for him. I think they did not want him to leave, but everyone knows how things are at home, it is a situation that they will know. I tried, but it was not possible.”
