Hansi Flick, the coach of Barcelona, said on Tuesday that he has agreed to a new two-year deal with a third-season option. With the Catalan team’s 2-0 triumph against bitter rivals Real Madrid on Sunday, the 61-year-old German won La Liga for the second time in a row.
“Obviously I’m very happy; it gives me the confidence to keep working for another year or two,” Flick said during the pre-league visit to Alavés’s news conference on Wednesday. “I believe that many coaches would be delighted to sign a three-, four-, or five-year contract, but in this instance, with Barcelona, I think it’s good to keep it limited, and I appreciate that.”
“If all goes according to plan, we’ll opt to continue until 2028. Both the club and I have the right to cease. In just two seasons, Flick has won two La Liga championships, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups after joining Barcelona in the summer of 2024. But since moving to Catalonia, Flick has failed to win the Champions League, which he did with his old team, Bayern Munich, in 2020.

All I can say is that we’ve tried and we’ll try again.” Flick expressed his excitement at the extension despite the recent death of his father, pointing out that he and the club had mutual trust. He highlighted the deal’s flexibility as advantageous, allowing for a review in 2028 to determine any additional commitments.
