Dortmund warned to bring A-game versus Barcelona

Following FC Barcelona’s dismal performance against Chelsea, which is another sign that the team has lost its competitiveness, Joan Laporta must move decisively. The loss demonstrated that the squad is not prepared to fight in the Champions League with assurances, particularly after losing to elite competitors like Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s evident internally that the endeavour won’t succeed without solid signings. In search of a long-term solution after Iñigo Rodríguez Martínez’s departure, Barcelona has determined that acquiring a left-footed centre defender is a crucial off-season goal. Nico Schlotterbeck, a German international, has become a top target.

According to reports, Hansi Flick, the new manager of Barça, really admires the Borussia Dortmund mainstay and sees him as a perfect tactical addition to his redesigned backline. However, Barcelona’s precarious financial position presents a major obstacle for the potential trade.

Sporting directors are pushing the transfer, but there are internal worries that Schlotterbeck’s wage demands could be too high, which might cause the transaction to fall through unless a financially feasible arrangement can be found.

Dortmund director admits defender is aware of Barcelona interest

Sebastian Kehl, the sports director of Borussia Dortmund, said in a recent interview that Schlotterbeck is considering the persistent transfer speculations. Kehl responded, “I know Nico is giving it a lot of thought,” when asked about interest from teams like Barcelona and Bayern Munich (h/t Diario SPORT).

But because he has a strong connection to Borussia Dortmund, Kehl is optimistic that Nico will sign a new deal there. I’m hopeful since he has a strong bond with Borussia. His objective is to achieve success and titles. He declared, “We’ll be financially flexible and do everything we can to keep him in Dortmund.”

According to reports, Hansi Flick, the coach of Barcelona, is a big fan of Schlotterbeck and would be thrilled to have him at the club. Given how similar the two centre backs’ styles are, the German international may perhaps be a perfect replacement for Inigo Martinez. Schlotterbeck is a perfect fit for Flick’s high defensive line because of his quickness and ability to understand the game, which gives him a significantly higher upside.
