Barcelona’s intentions did not work out as they lost 3-0 to AS Monaco in their Joan Gamper Trophy matchup last night. Despite the fact that it was an unofficial meeting, Hansi Flick and company will be dissatisfied with the outcome given that it was the team’s first home game under the German tactician’s leadership.

The Blaugrana have their work cut out for them when they take on Valencia in the first game of the 2024–25 La Liga later this weekend. They need to solve a few concerns both on and off the field. Prior to the season opener against Valencia, one of Barcelona’s main worries is that their players have not yet registered with La Liga.

This week, they managed to register three stars: Eric Garcia, Clement Lenglet, and Ansu Fati. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, manager Hansi Flick asked the team to handle the registration of another player: Inigo Martinez.

Flick urgently wants Barcelona defender registered in time to face Valencia

Martinez signed a two-year contract with Barcelona last year, but because of FFP difficulties, he was only able to play for one season. He is therefore not enrolled for the upcoming campaign. According to the source, Flick is pleased with the senior Spanish player’s efforts and wants him available for the opening match of the 2024–2025 season.

Against Monaco last night, Martinez was the lone defender to play the whole ninety minutes for Barcelona. Since the beginning of the preseason, he has been available to Flick and appears to have gained his trust. Barcelona will now have to choose who to register first, with new signing Dani Olmo already on the waiting list.
