Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that the club turned down a staggering $270 million (€250 million) bid for teenage sensation Lamine Yamal during the summer transfer window.

While Laporta didn’t specify which club made the offer, speculation points toward Paris Saint-Germain, who were reportedly eyeing Yamal as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe following his transfer to Real Madrid earlier this year.

Laporta’s comments came during an interview with Barca TV, where he emphasized that the club is not being forced into transfers due to financial difficulties, despite some high-profile exits this summer.

“People think we’ve sold players to balance the books, but that’s not true,” he insisted.

“We’ve made decisions based on sporting reasons. When a club offered €250 million for Lamine, I refused immediately.”

Yamal, now 17, has been a breakout star for both club and country since making his Barcelona debut as a 15-year-old in 2023.

With over 60 appearances for the Catalan giants and a crucial role in Spain’s victorious UEFA European Championship campaign this summer, Yamal has quickly established himself as one of the brightest talents in world football.

However, there are concerns about the young forward’s workload. Barcelona has been keen to avoid the injury issues that plagued Pedri after he was overworked in 2021, and a recent hamstring strain picked up while on international duty with Spain has only heightened those worries.

Laporta voiced his frustrations with Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, saying, “We pay the players, so clubs should have a say in managing their workload.”

Despite the injury, Barca hopes Yamal will return to action soon, with key fixtures against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid looming on the horizon.
