Joan Laporta Sure Messi Wants To Continue At Barcelona

Athletic Bilbao boss, Marcelino hopes for Lionel Messi to have an off night against them.

Both sides face each other in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

“What can be most decisive in the game and, therefore, can most influence the result is that their offensive players do not reach their best level, especially Messi,” Marcelino told the press.

“To suppose we are going to have a possession similar to Barca is to depart from reality. Neither PSG or Madrid were capable of doing that.

“We know we will have to suffer, because you cannot beat Barca without suffering, not even the most powerful clubs know that.

“Barca would be favourites against any La Liga team, but it is not always the favourite who wins, it is the one who plays the best for 90 minutes and takes advantage of their opportunities.”

No one can fault Marcelino for his negative approach to the match. Messi has once again been brilliant this term and Barcelona hold an excellent record against Athletic Bilbao. Messi has scored 27 goals in 40 appearances against them.

The news continue to swirl up speculation regarding his future. Barca president, Joan Laporta is still optimistic about convincing Messi into staying.

“Everything is progressing adequately,” Laporta told Deportes Cuatro. “I will do everything within the club’s capabilities to get him to stay. That’s what we’re doing. Messi is motivated.

“He is an extraordinary person and I am convinced that he will want to continue at Barca.”
