Jordi Cryuff, the Barcelona club’s sporting director, will quit his role at the end of the current season

The 49-year-old former manager of Maccabi Tel-Aviv is seeking a fresh challenge.

In a tearful meeting with Joan Laporta, president of Barca, Cryuff announced his retirement. In September 2021, he transferred from Chinese League club Shenzhen FC. In the boardroom, Cryuff was Xavi Hernandez’s supporter, and the head coach of Barca tried to persuade him to stay with the team.

Xavi requested supporters to chant for the former Dutch international to stay during Barcelona’s championship parade. The Dutch-Catalan, on the other hand, is adamant about leaving the Blaugrana. Mateu Alemany is also leaving the club, bringing about a structural shift.

Aston Villa, a Premier League team, has made him an offer. Cryuff will end any market initiatives the club is engaged on and assist the team in transitioning as new executives are hired.

One of the front-runners to succeed Alemany as director of football is Raphinha’s agent and former star for Barcelona, Deco. There are no specific names floating around in the gossip mill, so it’s unknown who the team will sign to replace Cryuff.
