In a significant vote of commitment to the club’s evolving project under Hansi Flick, France international Jules Kounde has agreed terms on a new long-term contract that will keep him in Catalonia until June 30, 2030.
Kounde Signs New Contract: Barca Locks Down Defender with Deal to 2030
The 26‑year‑old defender, a standout in Barcelona’s 2024–25 campaign, has cemented his importance under Flick.
Operating from right‑back, Kounde added four goals and eight assists across all competitions and emerged as Barcelona’s most prolific tackler in La Liga, with 43 tackles won and 44 dribbles stopped both team highs.
He also provided key moments: assisting in Supercopa de Espana victory over Real Madrid in January and scoring the match‑winner in the Copa del Rey final in April.
This new agreement extends his prior deal—due to expire in 2027—by three years, reflecting his value to both the squad and the club’s future.
Reports suggest the extension includes a substantial salary boost and a hefty release clause, underlining his elevated status within the club hierarchy.
Negotiations accelerated in recent weeks amid interest from Manchester City, who had reportedly explored a possible move for the defender.
Barcelona, however, remained firmly committed to retaining one of Europe’s premier full‑backs and prioritized his extension over potential suitors.
Sporting director Deco reportedly played a key role in steering talks to a successful conclusion, securing agreement from both the club and Kounde’s camp ahead of an expected official announcement during Barcelona’s upcoming pre‑season trip to Asia.
For Kounde, the decision reflects both loyalty and ambition. Since arriving from Sevilla in 2022 for around €50 million one of the club’s top transfers he has grown into a central figure under Flick.
Now, equipped with increased responsibility and trust, he looks set to help anchor Barca’s defence for seasons to come.
With Kounde now secured, Barcelona have turned their attention to renewing other cornerstones of the squad. Frenkie de Jong another key figure has reportedly moved into advanced talks for a contract extension running until 2029
