Julian Alvarez has his heart set on a summer switch to Barcelona, according to a new report from Laia Tudal on Catalunya Radio.
“I Want Barca” – Julian Alvarez Privately Pushes for Summer Transfer
The Atletico Madrid striker, 26, has privately told his close circle that he wants to join the La Liga champions.
This revelation comes as a major boost for Barca, who view the Argentine as their ideal attacking reinforcement.
Alvarez has enjoyed a strong season at the Metropolitano, netting 19 goals across all competitions.
Despite Atletico’s firm refusal to sell their star forward, the 2022 World Cup winner personally favours a move to Catalonia.
Barcelona president-elect Joan Laporta has admired Alvarez for a long time. He considers the former Manchester City man the top choice to strengthen the number nine position ahead of next season.
Hansi Flick’s system also suits Alvarez perfectly, making him a priority target for the club.
However, the deal faces serious financial obstacles. Tudal describes the operation as “practically unaffordable” for Barcelona.
Atletico will likely demand €100 million or more for their prized asset. The Rojiblancos have not yet received an official approach from Barca, and they could simply shut the door on any sale.
Barcelona must first ask Atletico about Alvarez’s availability. If the Madrid side sets a price, it could climb well above the €100 million mark.
For a club still navigating strict financial regulations, that figure presents a massive challenge.
For now, Alvarez’s personal desire to wear the Blaugrana shirt works in Barcelona’s favour. But turning that wish into a completed transfer remains a tough battle.
The coming weeks will show whether the Catalans can find a way to afford their dream striker.
