Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal has shared his thoughts after playing a key role in his team’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Yamal: ‘We Are Barca – We Must Improve’ After Dramatic Draw
The 18-year-old forward was one of the standout performers on the night, scoring a superb goal to make it 2-2 before forcing an own goal late in the game that secured a crucial point for Barcelona.
Despite his impressive display, Yamal admitted that the team must tighten up defensively to start turning draws into wins.
“We are Barca and we always have to win,” Yamal told the media after the game.
“It’s hard to get a victory when you concede three goals. That’s what we need to improve. We’re already focused on the next league match.”
Reflecting on his goal, the teenager described how the move unfolded.
“It was a quick play. Fermin gave me a great backheel, and I just tried my best to finish it.
I’m happy with the goal but sad that we couldn’t get the win,” he added.
Yamal also dismissed recent rumours about his fitness and attitude, clarifying that he feels fully motivated to perform at his best.
“There’s been a lot of talk about my pubalgia and that I was sad — it’s all lies. I’m working hard and trying to enjoy myself on the pitch,” he explained.
When asked about comparisons with Lionel Messi, Yamal stayed humble and focused on his own progress.
“Messi has scored thousands of goals like this. I can’t compare myself to him. I just want to keep improving and score more in the future,” he said.
Barcelona will now turn their attention to their upcoming La Liga clash against Celta Vigo before the international break, where Yamal is expected to receive another call-up to the Spanish national team.
