Tens of thousands of socios (club members) flocked to polling stations across Catalonia to participate in the highly anticipated election.

Laporta’s primary challenger, Victor Font, had run a aggressive campaign, frequently criticizing the president’s fractured relationship with club legend Lionel Messi as a sign of poor management. However, the strategy failed to resonate with enough voters.

Laporta, who previously led the club from 2003 to 2010 before returning for a second term in 2021, campaigned on a message of stability and progress.

He repeatedly argued that he was the only candidate capable of maintaining the team’s recent on-pitch improvements.

Furthermore, he issued stark warnings about Font’s economic plans, claiming that a change in leadership would put the club’s fragile finances back at risk.

The president’s confidence was evident long before the polls closed.

With voting still underway following the first team’s impressive 5-2 victory over Sevilla, SPORT reported that Laporta had already booked a celebratory dinner at a local restaurant.

He was later seen celebrating with several first-team players who had cast their votes after the match.

Official vote counting began immediately after polling stations closed at 20:00 GMT.

While the final results are pending, the significant margin indicated by the TV3 exit poll makes a Laporta victory a virtual certainty, ensuring his leadership for another six years.
