Messi is Barcelona’s all-time most important player.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner equalled Xavi’s record for Barcelona appearances after marking his 767th appearance for the Catalan giants.
Messi scored twice and made an assist in a 4-1 win over Huesca and Barca managed to close the gap on Atletico Madrid to four points.
The Argentine also scored 20 goals for the 13th consecutive season and became the only player to achieve such a feat in La Liga history.
Ronald Koeman praised the Argentine for his breathtaking performance against Huesca on Monday.

“I think Messi has shown that he is the best,” Koeman said.
“The first goal was fantastic. He deserves to be important for this team.
“I don’t know what else to say about Leo. The level he has been at for so many years, so many games.
“He has equalled Xavi and in principle he will surpass him on Sunday.
“He is the most important man in the history of this club. Luckily he is still with us.”
