Lionel Messi has been told to leave Barcelona by his compatriot.
Argentine World Cup winner, Mario Kempes believes Messi should reunite with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Negotiations are going down to the final minutes between Messi and Barcelona. There is still no clear indication on whether he will stay at Camp Nou or leave. The 33-year-old’s contract is due to run out next month.
“[Messi] should re-join forces with Guardiola, go to PSG or Bayern Munich,” Kempes told BILD.
“They are the clubs that either have the money or the players to achieve success. Bayern directors think with their heads, not with their portfolio and would never pay such a high salary.
“Messi is torn. He is very comfortable in Barcelona, but realises that the chances of winning the Champions League again with Barcelona are few.
“In recent years he has always been eliminated very soon and the club is having great difficulties to build a new winning team due to the financial situation.”
Messi, like most footballers, will have to accept a pay cut in the current scenario. He is the world’s highest-paid footballer but Barca will find it difficult to match his demands. Joan Laporta is already sweating over the contracts of other Blaugrana stars.
