According to the latest reports, Lionel Messi wants to stay at Barcelona.
Argentine journalist, Veronica Brunati claims that Messi has told Barcelona’s presidential candidate, Joan Laporta about his plans.
“I know that Messi has informed Laporta about his desire to stay at the club,” Brunati claimed.
Messi’s form has not been at his usual best this season with fans making a clear connection with it to last summer’s dispute between all parties internally. The forward wanted to leave Camp Nou but his transfer was halted by contractual legalities.
Many Cules believe this will be Messi’s final season in a Barca shirt but Brunati’s claims might help calm some nerves. There are plenty of moving parts and according to the same journalist, “things can change in the coming weeks”.
Messi clearly stated that Josep Maria Bartomeu stopped him from leaving. Now, that the latter is no longer with the Blaugrana, things might change. It could still take a lot to convince the Argentine into staying.
Something massive erupted behind the scenes which made the man turn against his beloved club. Throughout his career, Messi has deflected rumours of leaving Barca for any other club, up until last summer. The next election results will go up in January for the presidential seat after which we can expect a change.
