According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, Manchester City has inquired about France international Jules Koundé, whose future at Barcelona is presently being discussed between the club and the player’s entourage.
Despite Pep Guardiola’s team’s interest, the Catalan powerhouses are still hopeful of coming to an agreement on a contract extension. Although Koundé’s current contract at Camp Nou expires in 2027, negotiations for a longer-term agreement have been going on for a few weeks.
Under Hansi Flick, who considers the former Sevilla defender to be among his most reliable players, the Frenchman has established himself as a mainstay at right-back. “He plays at a top level and is very important for us,” the German coach remarked in April, following the Copa del Rey final win against Real Madrid.
Koundé is a natural center-back who has excelled in his role on the flank, making 53 appearances in 2024–2025 across all competitions, more than any Barcelona defender. According to reports, the team believes he is the world’s best right-back, and it appears that everyone in the Etihad agrees.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also responded to rumors of a possible move to England in a report that Sempre Barca has highlighted. The Italian clarifies that neither Barcelona nor Kounde are contemplating a situation in which Kounde departs the team this summer and that both parties are eager to extend his time at Camp Nou.
If Barcelona is unable to come to an agreement on a new contract, it appears that a chance to sign Kounde is more likely to arise next summer. However, recent results indicate that Barcelona will be able to reach an agreement to retain Kounde on the team.
