Memphis Depay has struggled for minutes at Barcelona this season.
The former Man United winger played only two games in the La Liga after sustaining a hamstring injury in the international break in September.
He seems to have fallen down the pecking order under manager Xavi and unlikely to sign a contract extension this summer.
He was Barcelona’s top-scorer last term netting 13 goals in 31 games for the Catalan giants.
Much would depend on how the winger fares at the World Cup in Qatar.
“I was almost ready to resume group training at Barcelona when I had a setback,” he said.
“You should know: I really had to hold back at times. I missed an important period at Barcelona, when they needed me and I wanted to be important for the team. I was really bummed that I couldn’t play, but I love being back.”
Unfortunately the Dutchman won’t be featuring in his team’s first clash against Senegal.
“It was difficult to hear that I will not start,” he added.
“But everything has a reason and the trainer has a vision with the team. We communicate well with each other.”
