Merino’s current contract with Real Sociedad will expire in the summer of 2025.
Barcelona gets a major update in their pursuit of Mikel Merino. Barca have to wait for the conclusion of Euro Championship 2024. The Spanish star will now take part in the semifinals of the competition.
According to the father of Real Sociedad, Merino will not be made until this summer’s European Championship has concluded. The 28-year-old netted a last-gasp winner for La Roja on Friday evening to send his team into the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
Spain will now take on France in the semifinal and if they beat them, they can eye a major trophy after a long time. Barcelona are keen to get the signature of this talented player.
Merino’s current contract with Real Sociedad will expire in the summer of 2025. New Barca boss Hansi Flick is thought to view him as the ideal player to boost the midfield for the 2024-25 season.
Angel Merino, father of Real Sociedad player said, “Mikel has already said actively and passively that until Spain finishes its participation at Euro 2024, he is not going to talk about anything else,”
“He is only going to talk about the European Championship, and then he will talk to his agent and his club and whoever he has to talk to solve what he has to solve.”
Merino scored eight goals and registered five assists in 45 appearances in all competitions for his club. He arrived from Newcastle United in July 2018, scoring 27 goals and registering 30 assists.
