Barcelona lining up a move for Wilfried Zaha as a replacement for Ferran Torres

According to reports, Newcastle United has offered Barcelona Ferran Torres in an attempt to entice the Spanish attacker to return to the Premier League.

According to Spanish publication Fichajes.net, the Magpies and Tottenham Hotspur have both submitted offers for the Spaniard totaling £43.3 million (€50 million). Marcus Rashford’s loan arrival from Manchester United earlier this summer raised questions about his future.

Torres, who has two years left on his Catalans deal, has been providing a rotating option out wide and backing up Robert Lewandowski. Before relocating to Camp Nou in January 2022, he established himself in the Premier League with Manchester City.

Barca is willing to keep the 25-year-old Torres, and he wants to stay put, thus Newcastle’s bid has been rejected. Amid rumors about his future, the Spain international is claimed to have been “protected” by Deco, the director, and Joan Laporta, the president of the Spanish powerhouses.

According to Capology, Torres makes £210,000 a week. He is even willing to prolong his contract and dedicate his long-term career to the team and Hansi Flick’s idea. In a difficult transfer window, he is the most recent forward the Magpies have attempted to sign.

Newcastle United want Barcelona’s Ferran Torres

Earlier this summer, there had been conjecture over Torres’ future at Camp Nou, especially since Marcus Rashford joined on loan from Manchester United, casting doubt on his position within the squad.

Despite this, it is believed that Barcelona’s management, under the direction of president Joan Laporta and sports director Deco, has shielded the Spain international from possible departures since they see him as an important member of their squad.

With a contract that expires in 2026, Torres has worked mostly in a rotating capacity lately, serving as Robert Lewandowski’s backup in the center striking position as well as a winger.

His versatility across the front line makes him a valuable asset in manager Hansi Flick’s plans, even if he isn’t always a sure starter. For this reason, the Spanish powerhouses have no plans to let him depart.
