Barcelona B coach Sergi Barjuan is the club’s new interim manager.

The Spaniard has been named as the club’s interim coach while Barca finalises the return of Xavi Hernandez from Al Sadd.

Ronald Koeman was sacked after their recent defeat to Rayo Vallecano and the team will train under Barjuan for the first time.

Club president Joan Laporta believes Barjuan is the right man to keep the team moving while the club waits for an agreement to be reached with Xavi.

In an official statement, Barcelona said: “Barcelona hereby announces that Sergi Barjuan, the current coach of Barça B, shall be taking provisional charge of the technical management of the senior squad.

“His interim position as first team head coach shall end as soon as the club has hired full-time head coach to replace the dismissed Ronald Koeman.”

Koeman has led Barcelona to their worst start of the season since the 1987-88 campaign and are struggling in the ninth position in the table.
