The teenage full-back from Amsterdam arrived at Camp Nou on a five-year deal. He cost Barca £18m in a long drawn-out transfer battle with Bayern Munich. Dest will be filling into Nelson Semedo’s spot who was sold to Wolves a few days back.
Ronald Koeman will welcome Dest as his first signing as Barca manager. Other incoming players this summer are Miralem Pjanic from Juventus, Francisco Trincao from SC Braga, Pedri from Las Palmas and Matheus Fernandez from Palmeiras.
Dest quickly rose to prominence in the Eredivisie, chalking up 36 appearances for Ajax last term and contributing 8 goals. He represents the United States of America internationally and already has 3 caps. The sky is the limit for this young pacey right-back if he hits his stride at Camp Nou.
Dest thanked Ajax before departing for taking on this new chapter. He said, “Just a boy from Almere Stad who grew up with a dream of playing for Ajax. I’m blessed to have represented this club for the last 9 years. Thank you to everyone at Ajax, and a special mention to the fans, you will always hold a special place in my heart.”
