Ajax have completed the permanent signing of Barcelona defender Jofre Torrents, the Dutch club confirmed on Monday. The 19-year-old left-back puts pen to paper on a contract in Amsterdam that runs until June 30, 2030.

Torrents first arrived at La Masia in 2017 as a 12-year-old prospect from Reus Deportiu. He steadily climbed through Barcelona’s youth ranks and earned his first-team breakthrough during pre-season in 2025.

The teenager made his official senior debut on August 16, 2025, featuring in Barcelona’s 3-0 La Liga victory over Mallorca at Son Moix.
He went on to make four first-team appearances under Hansi Flick during the 2025/26 campaign, splitting his time between the German coach’s squad and Barça Atlètic.
Despite participating in first-team dynamics during this summer’s pre-season, Torrents learned he would not feature in the squad once the new campaign got underway.
With Barcelona re-signing Joao Cancelo and already boasting Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin as left-back options, the youngster opted to seek regular football elsewhere.
While the official statements from both clubs do not disclose financial details, reports indicate Ajax will pay approximately €6 million for the transfer.
Barcelona have protected their long-term interest in the defender by retaining 50% of his future transfer rights.
Jordi Cruijff, Ajax’s technical director, expressed his delight at securing the signing:
“Jofre is a highly talented player who has developed strongly over the past few years. We are delighted to have secured his signing for Ajax.
A number of clubs were interested in him, but he made a very conscious decision to choose our plans and vision”.
Barcelona thanked the defender for his commitment and professionalism throughout his nine years at the club, wishing him success in this new chapter of his career.
The transfer follows Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s loan move to Ajax, marking the second piece of business between the two clubs in the current window.
