PSG Were Ready To Bid For Lionel Messi

Paris Saint-Germain chief, Leandro admits considering Lionel Messi bid when the transfer saga erupted last month.

Barcelona had received a transfer request from the Argentine which they have managed to shut down with legal proceedings.

PSG were one of the clubs ready to offer Messi a way out of Camp Nou. Ultimately, they never had the chance with his release clause being worth €700m.

Leonardo confirmed, “We certainly thought about it. There’s a complicated situation with Financial Fair Play, but when we heard Messi could be on the market… it tempted us.

“We asked ourselves if it really was possible. There are some players who are completely out of the ordinary. The problem now is that all the clubs need to sell before they can buy and PSG are no different. But it’s difficult because nobody is buying. We invested heavily in Mauro Icardi this summer, so need to be a little more creative going forward.”

PSG already have two of the biggest names in the sport in Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Adding Lionel Messi into the fold would truly put them over the top of some of their European rivals.
