Barcelona has moved significantly closer to securing the long-term future of Raphinha, with negotiations over a contract renewal now at a very advanced stage.
Deco Meets Raphinha as Barcelona Push for New Contract
Journalist Matteo Moretto reported on Radio MARCA that the Catalan club plans to improve the Brazilian winger’s financial terms and extend his stay beyond the current 2028 expiry date.
This development follows a pivotal decision earlier this year when Raphinha rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia to remain at the club.
Sporting director Deco met with Raphinha earlier this week at a restaurant in Castelldefels to hold the first detailed discussions over a new agreement.
The meeting was informal, but its timing signals Barcelona’s clear intent to reward the player’s commitment and form.
The club aims to add another year or two to his contract and finalise the renewal before the end of the year.
What makes these negotiations particularly unusual is that Raphinha does not employ a traditional agent.
He is handling the discussions himself alongside his wife, which means Deco operates solely on Barcelona’s behalf.
The sporting director played a key role in bringing Raphinha from Leeds United, but he cannot represent the player in these talks.
Raphinha has become a central figure in Hansi Flick’s attack and has taken on a leadership role within the squad.
The Saudi approach proved alternatives existed, but the Brazilian prioritised Barcelona.
With talks progressing well, he could soon sign a new deal that extends his stay into the next phase of his career at the club.
