The brass at Real Sociedad have touched base with their counterparts at La Liga rivals Barcelona regarding a potential deal for a member of the latter’s defensive ranks.

The Blaugrana star in the sights of those in a position of power at Anoeta ahead of the new season is right-back Héctor Fort. The 20-year-old is now widely expected to depart the Spotify Camp Nou before the summer is out.

After evidently failing to convince Hansi Flick of his talents during a loan spell with Elche last season, Fort has been identified as dispensable by Deco and his team of directors.
The La Masia graduate spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Elche, but that stint did not change the German coach’s mind about the youngster’s future.
A whole host of clubs from across Spain and Europe alike have expressed an interest in bringing Fort in.
Borussia Dortmund have already held conversations for the defender and currently sit as the best-placed club to secure his signature. However, Real Sociedad have now joined the race.
According to transfer market journalist Matteo Moretto, Real Sociedad have formally inquired about Fort’s availability.
The Basque club are weighing up their defensive options for the new season, although centre-back remains their primary focus.
Barcelona prefer a permanent transfer and are quoting a fee between €10 million and €15 million. The Catalan giants are not open to another loan deal.
With Fort under contract until 2029, the Blaugrana are in no rush to accept an unsuitable offer.
Fort, who can operate on both flanks but is more comfortable on the right, made his first-team debut under Xavi Hernández.
Despite his immense potential, he finds himself out of favour under Flick, who has opted to promote Xavi Espart ahead of him.
Whether Real Sociedad can convince Barcelona to part with their young asset remains to be seen, but the San Sebastián side have certainly made their interest known
