Rennes coach responds to Samuel Umtiti rumours

Samuel Umtiti has been linked with an exit this summer window.

The French defender has now completed six seasons at Camp Nou since his arrival from Lyon back in 2016.

He had two successful seasons initially but fell off in his last few seasons due to injury trouble that affected his performance.

He has completely fallen out of favour under most of his previous coaches at Barcelona and the club would definitely want to offload him in the summer.

Rennes boss Bruno Genesio has targeted the centre-back this summer and are currently negotiating for the Frenchman.

“I don’t want to talk about names, neither in this position nor in others. It’s not my domain, it’s Flo’s. There are several player profiles that interest us in this position,” Genesio said.

“Sam is a player I know perfectly. I first had him in training in Lyon, then in the professional team. It definitely creates a bond.

“You all know his story, his qualities and the setbacks he had last year. He remains a very, very high level player, and very high level players may interest us.”
