Reports of Barcelona finalizing a deal for Ajax sensation, Sergino Dest has been rubbished by the player’s agent.
Veronica Inside claimed that both parties had come to an agreement, something that never happened according to Joes Blackborn.
He told De Telegraaf, “Barcelona has sometimes inquired about Sergiño’s situation, but that was it. There is no concrete interest. Barcelona has not reported to me and not to Ajax.”
The Catalan giants have been actively looking for a replacement right-back all season. Unhappy with Nelson Semedo, they are prepared to find Quique Setien a player more suited to his style of play. Dest has certainly attracted interests after his 20 La Liga appearances and 5 assists this season.
He has just been voted Ajax’s talent of the year at 19 years of age. What he has shown this term certainly makes him an interesting prospect for the Blaugrana or any other top European outfit. Dest is remarkably fast and quite capable going forward. However, he is not a proven product and still has ways to develop before he can be considered a starter at Camp Nou.
Barca’s intentions might not be to bring in a project after facing several issues with Semedo. Dest could a brilliant option for the long-term. Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich are currently monitoring him but as it stands, no one has completed a transfer for him just yet.
