Ronald Araujo rejects offers from English clubs to stay with Barcelona

Ronald Araujo is expected to sign a new contract with Barcelona, according to Fabrizio Romano, since only a few things need to be settled. The defender will sign a contract through June 2026, but it appeared that he was close to joining Juventus. It won’t be long before Ronald Araujo signs a deal extending his tenure at Barcelona through June 2026. A final meeting has been scheduled to formalize the contract, and Fabrizio Romano claims that the Catalans and the defender have struck an agreement.

Araujo appeared to be headed to Juventus just last week as rumors from Spain indicated that he had previously expressed his desire to quit the team and join Juventus, who were prepared to pay the €50 million asking price to acquire him in January. But after the “Azulgrana” defeated Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, the story changed when the Uruguayan was persuaded by sporting director Deco to turn down the Italians’ offer and remain with the team to compete for a starting spot in Hansi Flick’s starting lineup.

Juventus target Araujo chose to stay at Barcelona

Araujo returned to action earlier this month after missing much of the season due to surgery for a damaged hamstring tendon last summer. Since Inigo Martinez’s injury, the center-back is anticipated to play frequently alongside Pau Cubarsi in the Barcelona defense. Reports on Auarjo’s personal preference have been mixed. According to some sources, he had approved a transfer to Juventus, but others asserted that he preferred to remain at Barcelona.

However, according to reports from Spanish publication Sport, Araujo is now almost ready to sign a new, better, long-term contract. According to Sport, negotiations for a contract renewal are proceeding after Araujo’s agents reportedly spoke with Deco, Barca’s sporting director, on Friday. The article from Friday even suggested that an agreement might be reached as early as next week.
