Ronald Koeman calls out Ilaix Moriba for the contract standoff between him and Barcelona.

The 18-year old defender has entered the final year of his contract and a contract extension is in the works for the last few weeks.

He is one of the most promising players in the Barca youth system after breaking into the first team last term but his wage demands have prevented him from reaching to any agreement.

Last time he appeared 14 times for the Catalan giants and also made one appearance in the Champions League.

“I spoke with [Ilaix] two or three weeks ago, more as a person than as a coach. His situation is horrible for me,” said Koeman.

“He’s 18 years old, he’s young, he’s had the chance to play in the first team, he’s the future of the club, but he’s in a situation where he’s not playing.

“I know what the club want to offer the player. My advice is that money isn’t the most important thing [at his age], it’s playing games. The player and his people think differently and I’m disappointed with that. That’s not the most important thing.”
