Fermín López is one of the shortest Barcelona Players

According to a ridiculous Spanish story that also disclosed Barcelona’s position on selling him to the Black Cats, Sunderland is prepared to raid Barcelona for one of its best players. However, TEAMtalk finds this to be utterly implausible.

Sunderland has surpassed expectations thus far this season, despite being anticipated to be one of the teams struggling to survive in the Premier League upon their return to the English top division. After 11 games, Sunderland is now in fourth position in the Premier League standings following a respectable 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Stadium of Light over the weekend.

Even the most devoted supporters will be taken aback by a recent claim in Spain regarding a raid on Barcelona, but if Sunderland keeps going in this direction, it is quite probable that the Black Cats will enter the transfer market in January in an effort to qualify for the Champions League. Fichajes claims that Sunderland wants to sign Barcelona player Fermin Lopez for €80 million (£70.3 million, $92.5 million) in 2026.

Sunderland ready to spend €80m to sign Barcelona midfield star

Lopez is a versatile player who can play as a left winger, offensive midfielder, or central midfielder. According to the rumour in the Spanish news site, Sunderland has “offered €80 million” for him.

In an attempt to sign the La Masia graduate, the Black Cats are being ambitious. In the Premier League, money is rarely a barrier, and even a recently promoted team can seek such a transfer.

Fermin would be a fantastic addition to Sunderland’s team. Together with Granit Xhaka, he would quickly rise to prominence at the club, and the Premier League would probably benefit much from his toughness and playing style.

But Barcelona is unlikely to approve a transfer for a player who is essential to their strategy. We will have to wait and see how things work out since, despite the money involved, this move is not likely to go through.
