Talks Of Lionel Messi Leaving Is Simply Speculation - Quique Setien

Quique Setien refuses to speculate on Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona.

The Argentine’s contract is due to run out in another 12 months and Barca is yet to sign him to an extension.

Despite going through a disappointing season, Messi has once again collected obscene attacking numbers. His 22 goals and 18 assists in 28 league outings show just how dominant he still is. Former Barcelona player, Rivaldo believes Messi could reunite with Pep Guardiola in the Manchester City ranks once his contract is over.

Setien, however, has not entertained the possibility just yet. His own job is under threat following a disappointing takeover process midway through the season. If he fails to deliver the La Liga or the Champions League, he might just get fired himself.

“I am not going to speculate on this because I have not heard him say anything about it and it is not my task,” Setien told the media. “I see him well, Leo. The rest is speculation that I do not even enter into. That’s what you, the press, are there for. I see him training well, and [nothing] more.”

Messi’s greatest dispute at Barca is with president, Josep Maria Bartomeu. He has criticized the club’s policies recently and might be growing frustrated with the level of incompetence in the recruitment department.
