Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa claims he has a new sponsor lined up.
The Blaugrana’s next president is to be decided on March 7th.
Joan Laporta is the favourite for the position but it all could end up on how elections go down. Now, Freixa has come out with the promise of financial backing to stabilise the club once again.
“We have been negotiating with this sponsor for some time, it’s a Hong Kong-based company and it would be effective from the 2022/23 season,” Freixa confirmed. “This sponsorship would allow us to play at the Camp Nou without any advertising.”
He added: “Between this investment group and the shirt sponsorship deal, which would be the highest sponsorship in the world of football, in total there will be an injection of 550 million euros for four seasons.
“People have tried to say I was jointly responsible for what Bartomeu has done, but I haven’t been at the club for six years, I even ran against him in 2015.”
Barcelona’s finances are in tatters after some horrendous transfer market business and the COVID-19 pandemic. A leading figure will need to step in and redirect the club back into the right path. There are of course, plenty of candidates looking to earn that place like Freixa.
