Barcelona presidential candidate, Victor Font wants to complete move for Eric Garcia right now.
Manchester City are aware of his wishes to leave and rejoin his boyhood club once his contract is over.
Garcia has understandably been dropped from the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium. It has been well established that he will eventually sign for the Blaugrana but the timing of it is what’s causing the commotion. With Barca’s lack of defensive options, Garcia would have been a huge half at this point of the season.
“Barcelona are not about to win a lot of things right now,” said Ronald Koeman admitted on Saturday.
“Koeman’s comments this lunchtime show the complete lack of a sporting project that the club has had for some time,” presidential candidate Font said in response. “One way of interpreting what he said, within the means of possibility, would be to sign Eric Garcia urgently to strengthen the backline.”
Gerard Pique is out injured and Samuel Umtiti continues to struggle with fitness.
“[Garcia] is a signing that the coach and the sporting department are asking for because the Copa del Rey is getting to a decisive stage, the Champions League is coming up and Real Madrid are floundering in LaLiga,” Font added.
“Between us all, we have to help in order to have the best team possible to challenge for titles this season.”
