Marcus Rashford has already been given a relative discount by Barcelona, but they may be able to save considerably more. When Rashford’s current loan agreement expires next summer, the Spanish team will be able to sign the England international for about £26 million, but Manchester United may help bring that amount down even more.
This is due to rumours that Ruben Amorim’s team is interested in signing Brazilian sensation Vitor Roque. If you’re wondering how that impacts Barcelona, it has to do with a sell-on provision that may bring in millions of dollars.
Roque was transferred to Palmeiras eighteen months after Barca signed him from Atletico Paranaense in 2023. They reportedly inserted a 20% sell-on clause in addition to the £22.4 million sum they got, which set a record for Serie A in Brazil.
With 13 goals in the previous season, Roque, aged 20, was among the top scorers in Brazil’s premier division. Sports Illustrated listed United, Chelsea, and Tottenham as possible purchases, sparking rumours of a return to Europe.
Agent confirms that forward’s €50m move could earn Barcelona €10m
Indeed, his agent, Andre Cury, recently acknowledged that there is actual interest: “We already had an offer from the Arab world of €35 million, which we were not interested in. We are now waiting to receive a proposal of around €50 million from the Premier League,” he told Globoesporte.
Manchester United reportedly took the initiative to keep an eye on him and sent scouts to observe him in action. West Ham and Chelsea are also closely monitoring the situation. While acknowledging that Palmeiras has given Roque the ideal setting to regain his rhythm and confidence, Cury also suggested that a move may be imminent.
“The idea was to come back here, get stronger, and research the market.” He is content at Palmeiras, but he is open to hearing a decent offer if everyone understands that he must leave. Barça would receive an extra €10 million if the Brazilian striker is sold for about €50 million.
